Black + White Photography Digital Magazine for the iPad:
Following an internship with the magazine, Eloise redesigned the iPad app of Black + White Photography. The aim was to create a more interactive and experiential product, which showcases the beautiful photography featured in the magazine in its best light, as well as providing additional content such video interviews with photographers.
The final design utilises a parallax scrolling system, by which the various layers of content build up and transition as the user scrolls down the page of each article, to create an immersive, refreshing, and visually-pleasing experience for the reader.
An example of a longer article. The work featured was a series of delicate glass plates, portraying the photographer’s grandmother’s journey through dementia. The flaws and intricacys of each plate reflect the flaws and ‘errors’ present in her mind, and the design captures this feeling too, with the text of the titles and pull quotes breaking up and fading away as the reader scrolls down the page.
The app has a clear colour-coding system for each section, which reflects that of the print magazine, and gives the user a clear sense of where they are in the publication. Tapping the header at the top of each pages reveals the contents overlay.
